The expertise in advanced training is assured by 20 PhD researchers from iBB and IST (Departments of Bioengineering, Computer Science and Engineering and Mechanical Engineering), spanning from Full Professors to young PIs. They coordinate research teams with expertise in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Microbial Biotechnology, Functional and Comparative Genomics and Integrative Microbiology, Computation and Systems Biology, and in Biomolecular, Metabolic, Bioprocess, Stem Cell and Biosystems Engineering.
IST and iBB researchers have been contributing to the expansion of the commercial Biotech sector in Portugal by establishing or working for different spin-offs. Team members organized several advanced courses (e.g., in Quantitative Proteomics, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Big Data in Life Sciences and Bioprocess Engineering) all including the collaboration of invited scientists from reputed international institutions. Also, they have been involved in scientific international collaborations, as demonstrated by the co-authorship of international scientific publications.
