Pedro Dobrões Fonseca

Pedro Dobrões Fonseca

Pedro Henrique Dobrões da Fonseca graduated in Biopathology from Escola Superior de Saúde of Instituto Politécnico do Porto in 2009. His final research project topic was “Histochemical and histoenzymatic diagnostic of neuromuscular diseases”, done in collaboration with the Neuropathology Unit of Centro Hospitalar do Porto.

He completed a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Faculdade de Ciências of Universidade de Lisboa in 2016. His final research project topic was “Analysis of expression and production of enterotoxins and emetic toxin from Bacillus cereus”, done in collaboration with the Unidade Militar Laboratorial de Defesa Biológica e Química, from the Portuguese Army, where he worked from 2014 to 2016.

From January 2017 to September 2017, he maintained a collaboration with the Dermatology Lab of Instituto de Medicina Molecular for the development and implementation of molecular detection techniques of dermatophytic fungi.

He enrolled in the AIM doctoral program on October 1st, 2017. His project is entitled “Nano-sensors for real-time bio-aerosol detection”. It is being done at INESC MN and Unidade Militar Laboratorial de Defesa Biológica e Química of the Portuguese Army.
The main objective of the project is the development of a modular sensor for real-time detection of Bacillus anthracis spores from environmental aerosol samples, for biodefense purposes.

The project is being supervised by Susana Cardoso de Freitas (INESC-MN) and co-supervised by Jorge Fernandes (INESC-ID).
